Advocacy

CHIP advocates for funding, services and partner collaborations that support the implementation of Blueprint initiatives.  Our efforts include the following:

  • An awareness campaign to garner legislative support for a dedicated revenue stream for the Marion County Low Income Housing Trust Fund.  That Fund now receives more than $1 million annually to support the development of supportive housing opportunities for low income families and individuals.
  • Advocacy on behalf of homeless service providers and people experiencing homelessness to ensure that new state identification requirements did not make it more difficult for someone experiencing homelessness to obtain a state identification card or driver’s license.
  • The establishment of a consumer “Advocacy Council” within the Indianapolis Continuum of Care, to provide direct consumer input on strategies, funding, and policies that impact the local homeless population.
  • Secured private funding and engaged support from the Township Trustees and local community centers to promote Indy Resource Connect.
  • Ongoing advocacy with public and private leaders and funders to support the development of an Engagement Center.
  • A continuing public awareness campaign to educate the general public about the “real” faces of homelessness and to garner their support through personal actions of donate, volunteer, and advocate.
