Support Community Partners
Give help where it can make a real difference. Volunteer with and/or donate to local organizations dedicated to helping our neighbors experiencing homeless or to preventing homelessness, and to those who provide treatment and the promise of recovery to people addicted to drugs and alcohol.
CHIP provides an online Community Wish List that enables housing and service providers to solicit volunteers and donations. These organizations greatly appreciate your time and your new and gently used clothing, furniture, recreational items and games, new hygiene items, and other supplies and materials.
Fewer than 1% of the individuals experiencing homelessness in our community engage in passive solicitation or panhandling. The City of Indianapolis launched the “Chip in at the Box” campaign in 2008 using street donation boxes to redirect charitable giving away from panhandlers and street solicitors to local organizations that provide housing and services to homeless individuals. One hundred percent of donations to The Boxes supports efforts of these local organizations to engage people in services, provide needed safety and healthcare items, promote self-sufficiency, and provide other direct services.
