Training/Technical Assistance
Since implementation of the Blueprint, CHIP has conducted extensive training and technical assistance in order to increase the capacity of local housing and service providers. Additionally, CHIP provides staffing support to facilitate the development of new collaborations among providers that enhance client outcomes. These efforts have resulted in increased and better coordinated supportive housing, reduction of duplication of services among agencies, better coordination and provision of services, new multi-agency program collaborations, and the implementation of demonstration model programs in Indianapolis.
Trainings organized or sponsored by CHIP have included the following:
- mental health and safety training
- housing finance
- mission-based property management
- effective service delivery
- strengths-based case management
- defining and documenting chronic homelessness
- the harm reduction approach
- how to effectively engage individuals experiencing mental illness or substance abuse issues
- applying for grants and outcomes development for new housing program applications
CHIP provides technical assistance and staffing support that help to build the capacity of organizations and expand collaborative efforts. Some of these efforts include the following:
- mental health and shelter collaboration
- supportive services only collaboration
- Hospitality Certification Program
- coordination of winter contingency and outreach teams
- engaging the faith community in collaborative service and housing programs through a faith summit, inclusion in other trainings and technical assistance, and luncheons targeted to the faith community
